The Oriental Pearl Radio & TV Tower (东方明珠塔; pinyin: Dōngfāng Míngzhūtǎ, official name: 东方明珠广播电视塔) is a TV Tower in Shanghai. Its location at Lujiazui in the Pudong district by the side of Huangpu River, opposite the TV tower is The Bund, these fantastic landmarks attracts millions travelers all over the world.

The tower features 11 different size spheres. The two largest spheres along the length of the tower are linked by three huge columns, each 9 m in diameter, and these two huge sphere are in diameters of 50m  for the lower and 45 m for the upper. There is a  14 m diameter sphere at the top of the tower. On the upper large sphere there is a revolving restaurant, where you can have one of the best view of Shanghai and also great food.

It is said that the design of the TV tower is inspired by the Tang Dynasty poem Pipa Song by Bai Juyi, one verse describes when the raindrop drop on the lotus leaf, the drops are like small and large pearls which falling on a jade plate (大珠小珠落玉盘/dà zhū xiǎo zhū luò yù pán). However, the designer Jiang Huancheng says that he had no idea about the poem during he process of designing. It was the chief of the jury board who reminded him of the poem.

The development of Shanghai is fast, more and more massive tall buildings is built up every year in shanghai, but i believe the Oriental Pearl Radio & TV Tower is the most special one in all Shanghainese, and other buildings and architecture can never replace.
